Cambridgeshire Police Federation chair Liz Groom has responded to last night’s announcement by the Prime Minister that the country is to enter another national lockdown.
Boris Johnson said the latest lockdown in England would place the toughest restrictions on the general public.
“The new variant of Covid-19 is spreading even more rapidly, so another lockdown is no surprise and I would urge the public to stick to the rules and only leave their homes for the very limited reasons set out by the Government so that we can all work together to protect the NHS,” said Liz.
“Last year was incredibly difficult for everyone but I’m grateful to the majority of people who abided by the restrictions in place. Under the new lockdown, police officers will continue to engage with the public, explain the rules, encourage people to follow them but will also use enforcement if necessary.”
She added: “This has always been about saving lives and supporting our NHS so it’s essential that people heed the rules and stay at home. Police officers will, as always, do their best but I think we all know the next few months are going to be difficult on every level. We must all pull together and do our bit.”
