This year’s Bravery Award nominee says attending yesterday’s Downing Street reception was a real ‘pinch me moment’.
Sergeant Jamie Cooper and dozens of other officers from across the country were invited to enjoy an exclusive reception at Number 10 ahead of tonight’s awards ceremony.
The event was the first of its kind to be held by members of the Government since this year’s General Election (Thursday 4 July) and was attended by the Home Secretary Yvette Cooper and Policing Minister Diana Johnson DBE.
“It was pretty incredible,” said Jamie, who received the nomination after his heroics last April when he saved the life of a man threatening to jump from the 20ft-high Millennium Bridge in Peterborough.
“It was all very surreal – evening just walking through the gates was a real eye-opening experience.
“It was a real ‘pinch me moment’ and I felt very humbled to be there. I remember looking around and thinking I just want to know more about my colleagues who are here today and what they did to get nominated.”
Being joined by his parner Kerri made the morning ‘even more special’ says Jamie.
“Having Kerri there by my side really was very special,” he continued, adding: “To see her enjoying it just as much as me was lovely.”
Jamie and Kerri, along with Federation representative and detective lead Stu Taylor will be attending this evening’s award ceremony in London.
Chief Constable Nick Dean and Police and Crime Commissioner Darryl Preston are also set to be there.
