Read an exclusive interview with Cambridgeshire Police Chief Constable Nick Dean in the latest edition of Fedline, the magazine of Cambridgeshire Police Federation.

He discusses the highlights of his career, how he switches off from the demands of his role, and police pay, among other issues and topics.

He says: “I still have a real desire to make a difference in this role, and even more importantly, I want to empower other officers to do the same. We’re all in this together, and we can all do great work for policing.”

We join Forces across the UK in paying tribute to police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty at the National Police Memorial Day (NPMD).

Chair Liz Groom, who attended this year’s service in Glasgow with Assistant Chief Constable Vaughan Lukey, described it as an ‘honour’ to represent the branch.

Liz reflects on the NPMD service in her regular column. She also discusses the Federation’s campaign for collective bargaining and the replacement of the Police Remuneration Review Body and urges the new government to follow up their supportive words for policing with actions that make a difference.

Detective Chief Inspector Leigh Allman talks about the work being done in Force to improve the recruitment and retention of detectives.

And there’s a focus on the positive impact that the Right Care, Right Person scheme is having in freeing up hours of time for officers.

Chief Inspector Kate Firman looks back on her 28-year career ahead of her retirement next month and reveals the interesting policing items she found while clearing out her locker.

There’s a call for members to complete this year’s Pay and Morale Survey to help the Federation fight for better pay and conditions.

And we meet the Special Constable who combines her Force duties with her day job as a personal assistant to the Bishop of Peterborough.

It’s all in the autumn edition of Fedline, available to download now.
