Federation members are being urged to get to know their balls at a seminar being held later this month as part of Testicular Cancer Awareness Month.

The Know Your Balls seminar will be held online from 10.30am until 12 noon on Wednesday 24 April and will stress the importance of early detection and diagnosis of testicular cancer. Medical experts will give details of how to carry out effective self-checks.

Speakers will include Zac Mader, the Federation’s men’s health lead, the police chief medical officer Professor John Harrison and police officer Alison Rowse.

The special guest speaker is former professional football John Hartson who was treated for testicular cancer which had spread to his lungs and brain in 2009. He played for Arsenal, West Ham and Wimbledon before heading to Celtic and then becoming assistant coach for the Welsh international side.

After his own diagnosis, he founded the John Hartson Foundation to raise awareness of the symptoms of testicular cancer and therefore help with early detection.

The foundation also helps patients suffering from testicular cancer by providing facilities and support services not normally provided by local authorities, including counselling.

Register to attend the seminar.
